Split 7" with the Rebel Astronautsreleased: Feb 2001
Review of the split 7 inch with the Rebel Astronauts. Published in Sadness is in the Sky (Australia) The eighth vinyl release from Sydney maestros of the stylus-tic endeavours Steady Cam Records. This split 7-inch between the Rebel Astronauts (Magnetic) and Purplene (Rinse & Stack) is the best combination since the lovely Hired Guns/Dearhunters 7-inch of 1999. Magnetic is smooth and inviting with a brittle edge before it slips up and into melancholy contemplation and right into Sandro territory. Before you know it, a wail of crystalline guitar seeps through, vibes samba glistening subtly into the mix, and the tune transforms into a bounding pop sentiment a la Gersey. Then, as quickly as it rose, it simmers out. Purplene frolic through pastures more aligned to the likes of Sea and Cake, Little General and Tortoise on Rinse and Stack, the snare drums pitter-pattering and a sweet simple guitar structure making for some altogether embracable listening. Put the needle down...and again.....and again.
Sadness is in the Sky (Australia).
